Globalization
The way we at Millennium Traduções - eTranslate define it, globalization
is the strategic expansion of corporate content, assets and messages across
cultures and markets. Globalization encompasses both internationalization
and localization, and it involves a whole lot more than just technology.
Globalization is an approach to doing business. It’s a process that affects
every company and every sector of business. And it’s a process you have
to master in order to take advantage of the new opportunities in our dynamic
and connected world.
Millennium Traduções - eTranslate helps you operate globally
– not only by addressing your technical and language needs, but also by
deploying an all-encompassing mindset that helps you to overcome the inevitable
logistical and organizational challenges as you move into new markets.
Internationalization
Internationalization in an e-business context is the process of making sites
and business platforms easily portable across a multitude of cultures and
locales. In most cases, this is no small challenge. Typically, e-businesses
have focused primarily on the US and English-speaking markets. As your global
business objectives expand, the technologies that you have relied on may
not be capable of handling the different linguistic and technical specifications
required in your new markets.
Millennium Traduções – eTranslate’s globalization analysts
can help. We combine our international expertise with technical know-how
to deploy new infrastructures and help re-architect existing ones.
With an internationalized platform in place, new market rollouts can occur
with increased cost efficiency, and time-to-market can be significantly
reduced via well-conceived and executed internationalization plans.
Localization
Localization is the process of adapting content and applications to specific
languages, local markets and cultures. You're here. And you want to be
there. To get there you need to localize. Naturally, an integral part
of the process involves translation, but with a special focus on cultural
nuances, conventions and style.
Typical Localization Projects
• Creating culturally-appropriate iconography and graphics, primarily
with the interface
• Translating any content, static or dynamic
• Translating back-end database contents
• Providing culturally relevant example and tutorial subjects for tutorials
or online help
• Performing in-context quality assurance for the final in-language product
to ensure it is user-friendly, internally consistent and precise
• Cross-platform browser or client testing
Translation
While an all-encompassing globalization effort is typically the best way
of meeting the challenges of operating internationally, sometimes our client's
needs are as straightforward as translation. No one does it better or faster
than Millennium Traduções – eTranslate.
Millennium Traduções – eTranslate uuses the most
qualified and knowledgeable human linguists to provide the highest quality
translations in over 10 languages.
Our linguists might look like everyone else's. But allow us to give you
a closer look. All of our professional translators start with professional
accreditation and at least 7 years of translation experience. And then it
gets demanding. All Millennium Traduções – eTranslate translators
are evaluated using our own rigorous, specially designed battery of tests,
with final acceptance into our network coming only after one of our in-house
linguists has reviewed their work and given it their stamp of approval.
Our exacting translation process requires that three of our professional
linguists work on every job: a translator, an editor and a proofreader.
For each project, we carefully select the entire language team based on
their knowledge of the subject area and the target language.
Technology can’t yet replace the essentially human process of high-quality
translation because machines are just not able to capture the nuances of
context and interpretation. However, computer-aided translation tools and
translation memory technology are useful in leveraging repeat text and ensuring
consistency throughout your projects. We make full use of these technologies
to keep your costs down and your translations both accurate and consistent
within a given project and from one project to the next.
Once the initial translator finalizes the work, the language team's editor
carefully reviews and refines it to ensure that the translation reads
as if it were originally written in the target language. Then the team's
proofreader provides language quality control, checking to ensure that
each piece of work is flawless.

Transcription
The audio and video transcription services consist in recording integrally
and faithfully each and every Word that the participants pronounce, on
paper, including the cases of intervention with a previous recording of
the name of each lecturer. We make the work and we deliver it according
to previous agreement. We usually take 48 hours for each registered hour.
The transcribed material is printed on a A4 paper, character 12 and space
between the lines of 1,5. We can also deliver them digitalized (in diskette
or cd-rom) this modality finds one difficulty: the identification of the
speakers. This identification is not possible to the transcriber to do,
except in cases when they are recorded in the audio, before each speech.
Stenotypy
The term stenotypy comes from the Greek “stenos” – that means narrow, shortened
and “typos”, printing. It is used to designate the way in which we can obtain
a record of what is said, through a machine in real time, i.e., in the same
speed in which the words are pronounced.
The work of the stenotypist consists in hear the words that are being Said,
translate them to the codes that he/she learned during the course and stenotype
them in a machine called stenotype machine. The stenotype machine is linked
to a computer through a special cable that transmits the stenotyped codes
(typed in the stenotype machine) for a specific program in the computer
that translates the codes again into the chosen language. Thus, to the extent
that the person speaks and the stenotypist transcribes his/her speech a
text file is generated in the computer, that allows that right after the
speech is made we can print what was said.
Practically the only computer resource that the stenotypist uses, besides
the program that transforms the codes into the language, is the Microsoft
Word, found in most part of the computers. It is in it that the correction
and finalization of the texts is made, for the ones that are for Closed
Caption go directly to the TV sets, and without being corrected beforehand,
that’s why sometimes we find mistakes in subtitles.
Thus, wherever there is a spoken Word and the need to register it and
transcribe it, stenotypy is the best and fastest way to do that.
Working Areas
Stenotypy can be used in many areas. It can be used to transcribe in:
• Court;
• Legislative houses;
• Lectures;
• Researches;
• Seminaries;
• Meetings;
• Interviews
• Transcription of cassette tapes, videos and Cd’s; and
• In all events that we need what as said in writing.
As you can see, stenotypy has a large variety of uses. We can use it for
a simple digitalization of an university work as well as the registration
of plenary sessions in the Federal Senate or House of Representatives.
